WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE!
By Vance Hutton
We often sing about the day of the Lord’s return. It is a day appointed
by the Father (Matt.24:36; Acts 17:31). That day is coming (Heb.9:27).
We will all be there (II Cor. 5:10). This will be the last day (Jn.12:48).
On that great day of the Lord’s return, the dead will be raised, the living
will be changed, all will be judged, the earth will be destroyed and the
eternal abode for all will begin. Are you ready for that day? What will
that day hold for you? Ask yourself that final question as the following
points are noticed.
I) A DAY OF GLADNESS FOR SOME: “And God shall wipe away all tears
from their eye: and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor cry-ing,
neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are pass-ed
away (Rev.21:4)” In the Lord’s presence is fullness of joy and at his right
hand are pleasures forevermore (Ps.16:ll). There will be the ultimate of
satisfaction when we awake (Ps.17:15). We will enter into the joy of our
Lord (Matt.25:21). We can now and will then rejoice at our great re-ward
(Matt.5:l2).
II) A DAY OF GREETING FOR SOME: Think of the first time when we
actual-ly see our God. We shall see His face (Rev. 22:4). Think of meeting
the Lord in the air (I Thess. 4:17). Think of being gathered to our people.
Imagine seeing again the righteous who have passed from this life (II Tim.
4:6—8). We can sit down with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and others (Matt.8:ll).
We sorrow that we can see faces no more of those parted (Acts 20:38) but
look forward to the day of greeting.
ILII) A DAY OF GRANDEUR FOR SOME: See the beauty of heaven in Rev.21
&
22. Think of those mansions that never decay (Jn.14:1—3); I Pet.l:3—5).
Heaven is a place of no sin, Satan, or night. There will be an abundant
entrance (II Pet.l:ll) into a place of abundant life (Jn.lO:1O). We will
truly no doubt say that the “half has not been told”.
IV) A DAY OF GLORY FOR SOME: There is far more excceeding and eternal
weight of glory for the faithful (II Cor.4:l7). There is a glory to be
revealed in us (Rom.8:l8). We shall appear with the Lord in glory (Col.3:4)
A crown of glory that fades not away will be received (I Pet.5:4). We have
real hope of glory in Christ (Col. 1:27).
V) A DAY OF GRIEF FOR MOST: There is sadness awaiting the unfaithful
and disobedient. There is a weeping spoken of so many times on that day
in the New Testament (Matt. 25:30). That will be a day of separation, shame,
and sorrow.
There is a final day coming. What will it hold for you? The choice
is yours. Jesus came that it might be a day of gladness, greeting, gran-deur,
and glory. Don’t let is be an eternal night of grief.
